A: Excellent. I intend to read it again. B: Good. I might read it again. C: So-so. I didn't mind reading it. D: Bad. I resented reading it. F: Atrocious. I finished it only because I'm compulsive that way.
David Rachels is Professor of English and Fine Arts at the Virginia Military Institute, where he teaches a course in American and Japanese noir. His most recent books are a collection of Mark Twain's Civil War writings and a collection of original poetry, Verse Noir. He is currently at work editing a collection of Gil Brewer's short fiction. He does not ordinarily make a practice of writing about himself in the third person.
